Extra‑Curricular Clubs and Enrichment

Opportunities to Explore, Connect and Thrive

At Kingsway Primary School, we know that learning extends beyond the classroom. Extra‑curricular clubs play an important role in supporting children’s personal development, wellbeing, confidence and sense of belonging.

Our clubs provide opportunities for children to:

  • develop new interests and talents
  • build friendships
  • work collaboratively with others
  • grow in confidence and independence
  • experience success beyond academic learning

Enrichment is a key part of our commitment to educating the whole child.

An inclusive approach to enrichment

We are committed to ensuring that our extra‑curricular offer is:

  • inclusive and welcoming
  • accessible to as many children as possible
  • responsive to children’s interests
  • sensitive to financial and practical barriers

For this reason, our offer includes:

  • free clubs run by Kingsway teaching staff
  • paid clubs delivered by specialist sports coaches and providers
  • regular review and adaptation to meet children’s needs and interests

Where possible, we aim to ensure that every child can attend at least one club during the school year.

Staff‑led clubs (free of charge)

Many of our clubs are run by Kingsway teaching and support staff, who already know the children well and understand our values, expectations and inclusive approach.

These clubs vary each term and may include:

  • art and creative clubs
  • cooking and practical life skills
  • board games and strategic play
  • reading and enrichment clubs
  • mindfulness, wellbeing or quiet clubs
  • music and performance opportunities

Staff‑led clubs:

  • are offered free of charge
  • build strong relationships between staff and pupils
  • provide safe spaces for children to explore interests
  • support confidence and participation, particularly for children who may be less confident initially

Sports and activity clubs (provider‑led)

Kingsway also works with trusted external sports coaches and providers to offer a range of high‑quality physical activity clubs.

These clubs may include:

  • football
  • gymnastics
  • multi‑sports
  • racquet sports
  • dodgeball
  • athletic and movement‑based activities

Provider‑led clubs:

  • are typically offered on a paid basis
  • support physical health, teamwork and resilience
  • are run by qualified coaches
  • align with school expectations for behaviour and inclusion

Seasonal and flexible provision

Our extra‑curricular offer is not fixed.

Clubs:

  • change termly or half‑termly
  • are adapted based on pupil voice and interest
  • respond to staffing, space and seasonal opportunities

This ensures:

  • variety across the school year
  • opportunities for different children at different times
  • a curriculum‑responsive enrichment offer

Information about available clubs is shared with families each term.

Inclusion, access and support

We recognise that some children may:

  • feel anxious about trying new clubs
  • need additional support to access activities
  • experience sensory or social challenges

We work carefully to:

  • support children into clubs gradually where needed
  • provide reassurance and flexibility
  • ensure reasonable adjustments are made
  • promote kindness, inclusion and belonging within clubs

If parents have concerns or would like to discuss club access for their child, we strongly encourage early conversation with school.

Safety, safeguarding and quality

All extra‑curricular clubs:

  • operate within school safeguarding arrangements
  • follow school behaviour and safeguarding policies
  • are supervised by appropriate adults
  • prioritise children’s wellbeing and safety

This applies equally to staff‑led and provider‑led provision.

Supporting personal development

Extra‑curricular enrichment supports many aspects of children’s development, including:

  • confidence and self‑esteem
  • teamwork and leadership
  • resilience and perseverance
  • respect and cooperation
  • enjoyment and engagement

Clubs are an important part of how Kingsway supports pupils to discover who they are, what they enjoy and what they are capable of becoming.

Working in partnership with families

We value parents’ support in:

  • encouraging children to try new activities
  • supporting regular attendance at clubs once signed up
  • talking positively with children about enrichment opportunities

Together, we ensure that clubs remain a positive, purposeful and enjoyable experience for all.

A final message

Our extra‑curricular clubs are not an “extra” - they are a valued part of life at Kingsway.

They reflect our belief that children learn and grow best when they are given:

  • opportunities
  • encouragement
  • support
  • and space to explore their interests

We are proud of the rich, evolving enrichment offer at Kingsway and look forward to continuing to develop it alongside our children and families.
