Accessibility at Kingsway Primary School

Removing Barriers so Everyone Can Participate and Thrive

At Kingsway Primary School, accessibility is a core part of our commitment to equity, inclusion and belonging.

We believe that every child, parent, carer and visitor has the right to:

  • access information
  • participate fully in school life
  • feel welcome, respected and supported
  • have barriers to access identified and reduced

Accessibility at Kingsway is not an additional consideration; it is embedded in our values, our relational culture and our everyday practice.

Our commitment to accessibility

Kingsway Primary School is committed to ensuring that:

  • our physical environment is as accessible as possible
  • our teaching and curriculum are inclusive and adaptive
  • communication with families is clear, accessible and supportive
  • reasonable adjustments are made promptly and sensitively

We recognise that accessibility needs may change over time, and we are committed to reviewing and improving our provision continually.

Our legal and statutory duties

Kingsway Primary School fulfils its responsibilities under:

  • the Equality Act 2010, which requires schools to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled pupils, parents, staff and visitors are not disadvantaged
  • the SEND Code of Practice (0–25 years), which sets out expectations for inclusive mainstream provision
  • the Public Sector Body (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, ensuring website accessibility
  • wider DfE guidance on inclusion, safeguarding and equal access to education

Accessibility is monitored and reviewed as part of our wider equality, SEND and school development processes.

Accessibility in our physical environment

We work proactively to ensure that our school environment is accessible wherever possible.

This includes:

  • thoughtful organisation of classrooms and shared spaces
  • adaptations to support mobility, sensory or medical needs
  • calm, predictable layouts that support regulation and inclusion
  • reasonable adjustments for individual children, families or visitors

If you have a specific access requirement relating to the school site, we encourage you to contact us so we can discuss suitable arrangements.

Accessible teaching and learning

Accessibility is a fundamental part of teaching and learning at Kingsway.

Through our Inclusive Quality First Teaching (iQFT) approach, we ensure that:

  • learning is adapted to meet diverse needs
  • visual, practical and digital supports are available
  • teaching is flexible and responsive
  • barriers to learning are reduced at the point of teaching

Our enabling environments, adaptive teaching strategies and relational approaches ensure children can access learning with confidence and dignity.

Digital accessibility and technology

Kingsway makes effective use of digital technology to support accessibility for children and families.

This includes:

  • 1:1 laptops or iPads to support learning access
  • accessibility tools such as text‑to‑speech and visual support
  • translation tools and digital communication support
  • website tools that allow parents to translate content into different languages

We continually review digital platforms to ensure they are usable and inclusive.

Accessible communication with families

We are committed to clear, accessible and relational communication with all families.

Our office and admin staff support accessibility by:

  • using clear, plain language
  • offering support with forms and digital systems
  • using translation tools where needed
  • checking understanding and responding sensitively

If you require information in an alternative format or need support accessing communication, please let us know.

Web accessibility

Kingsway Primary School is committed to making its website accessible and compliant with relevant accessibility standards.

We aim for our website to:

  • be compatible with screen readers and assistive technology
  • be navigable using keyboard or alternative input
  • use clear structure, contrast and language
  • support translation tools where possible

Accessibility issues identified on the website are taken seriously and addressed promptly.

  • children with SEND
  • parents and carers with disabilities
  • staff and visitors with access needs

Adjustments may relate to:

  • physical access
  • communication
  • teaching and learning

We work relationally and collaboratively to find solutions that support participation and dignity.
