Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education at Kingsway Primary School

Whilst PSHE is a foundation subject within the curriculum, it holds significant importance at Kingsway Primary School as it underpins our commitment to nurturing the whole child. Through PSHE, we support children’s personal, social, emotional and moral development, helping them to grow into confident, compassionate and responsible individuals.

Our PSHE curriculum is deeply rooted in our core values of Caring about Togetherness, Thriving on Difference, Being Passionate about Learning and Being Inspired to Grow. These values shape everything we do and are explicitly explored through PSHE teaching. Children are supported to understand what these values look like in practice — in their friendships, their learning, their behaviour and their role within the school, local community and wider world. Holding children accountable, in a relational and supportive way, helps our community to continue to thrive.

At Kingsway, PSHE education is carefully planned and delivered through the Jigsaw PSHE Programme, which provides a well‑sequenced, progressive curriculum taught weekly across all year groups. Through Jigsaw, pupils explore key themes including friendships, emotional wellbeing, relationships, aspirations, personal safety and life skills in a safe, engaging and age‑appropriate way.

Our PSHE curriculum encourages children to:

  • reflect on their own choices and actions
  • develop empathy and respect for others
  • build resilience and problem‑solving skills
  • understand difference and inclusion
  • recognise and support their own mental wellbeing

Children are given regular opportunities to talk, reflect and share their thoughts and feelings within a supportive and respectful environment. We place strong emphasis on emotional literacy, providing children with the language and tools they need to communicate how they feel, regulate emotions and develop a healthy mindset.

At Kingsway, we believe that happy children are successful learners. Through PSHE, we equip children with the confidence to express themselves, the skills to form positive relationships, and the understanding to navigate challenges as they grow and develop. Ultimately, our intention is for children to leave Kingsway as positive role models, ready to contribute thoughtfully and responsibly to their communities.

PSHE at Kingsway is not just a subject — it is a vital part of who we are as a school and how we prepare children for life beyond the classroom.
