Equity, Belonging and High Expectations for Every Child
At Kingsway Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of background, circumstance or starting point.
The Pupil Premium is an important part of how we remove barriers, improve outcomes and promote belonging for pupils who may face disadvantage. Our approach is inclusive, relational and ambitious, ensuring that support is woven into everyday practice rather than delivered in isolation.
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to support pupils who may be educationally or socially disadvantaged.
This includes children who:
- are eligible for free school meals, now or at any point in the last six years
- have been looked after or previously looked after
- may face additional barriers linked to family circumstances, wellbeing or access to opportunities
The purpose of the funding is to support schools to narrow gaps, promote equity and raise life chances.
A values‑led, relational approach
At Kingsway, Pupil Premium support is not about labels. It is about knowing children well, understanding their strengths and needs, and responding with care and ambition.
Our approach reflects our core values:
- We Care about Togetherness – strong relationships are the foundation for learning and wellbeing
- We Thrive on Difference – pupils’ experiences and identities are recognised and respected
- We are Passionate about Learning – high expectations are held for all children
- We are Inspired to Grow – progress is supported academically, socially and emotionally
Disadvantaged pupils are supported as valued members of our school community, not as a separate group.
Inclusive Quality First Teaching (iQFT)
The most important support for disadvantaged pupils at Kingsway is high‑quality teaching in the classroom.
Our universal approach, known as iQFT – Inclusive Quality First Teaching, ensures that:
- lessons are adaptive and responsive
- learning is accessible at the point of teaching
- misconceptions are addressed early
- children remain part of their class learning community
This reduces the need for heavy reliance on withdrawal or additional catch‑up and ensures learning is meaningful, inclusive and ambitious.
Targeted support when needed
Alongside strong universal provision, additional support is provided where it adds value. This may include:
- short, targeted keep‑up support within lessons
- pastoral and wellbeing support
- guidance informed by wider inclusion, SEND or safeguarding processes
Support is:
- timely and proportionate
- reviewed regularly
- designed to build independence and confidence
Our focus remains on keeping children learning and connected, not removing them from rich classroom experiences.
Attendance as a key priority
We recognise that good attendance is critical to learning and wellbeing, and this is a key strand of our Pupil Premium strategy.
For disadvantaged pupils, attendance is supported through:
- strong, trusting relationships with families
- early identification of patterns or concerns
- pastoral and early help approaches
- flexibility and understanding where barriers exist
Attendance is viewed through a relational and safeguarding‑aware lens, ensuring support is proactive and child‑centred.
Supporting wellbeing and emotional development
Disadvantage can sometimes affect children’s confidence, emotional regulation or sense of belonging.
Kingsway supports pupils’ wellbeing through:
- a strong pastoral offer
- trusted adults and key relationships
- emotionally safe, predictable environments
- opportunities for success beyond the classroom
Wellbeing is seen as a foundation for achievement, not a separate priority.
Enrichment and wider opportunities
The Pupil Premium also supports children’s access to:
- enrichment opportunities
- social and creative experiences
- inclusive play and OPAL outdoor learning
- activities that promote confidence and peer connection
These experiences are essential in supporting children’s personal development and sense of belonging.
Our Pupil Premium Strategy
Kingsway’s approach to Pupil Premium spending is set out clearly in our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement (December 2025).
This document:
- outlines current priorities and barriers
- explains how funding is used strategically
- demonstrates how impact is measured and reviewed
- aligns with inclusive, evidence‑informed practice

Monitoring impact and improvement
The impact of our Pupil Premium strategy is monitored through:
- attainment and progress information
- attendance and behaviour patterns
- wellbeing indicators
- professional dialogue with staff
- pupil voice and family feedback
This ensures decisions are reflective, responsive and focused on what makes the greatest difference.
Our commitment
At Kingsway Primary School, we are committed to:
- equity rather than sameness
- high expectations with the right support
- strong relationships and belonging
- early intervention and inclusive practice
- continual reflection and improvement
The Pupil Premium is one part of our wider mission to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and able to succeed.
