At our school, English is the foundation of learning, connection, and self-expression. Through reading, writing, speaking, and listening, our children learn to understand the world — and find their voice within it.

Our curriculum is built around a reading-inspired approach, where high-quality books sit at the heart of every subject. Stories open doors to new ideas, cultures, and experiences, helping us care about togetherness as we share, discuss, and explore texts together. Reading is not just a skill here — it is a shared journey that brings our community closer.

In the early stages, we teach phonics through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds, ensuring every child builds strong foundations in reading with confidence and success. We are committed to supporting all learners, recognising that we thrive on difference and that every child’s journey into reading and writing is unique.

Writing is purposeful, creative, and meaningful. Inspired by the books we study, children write for a range of audiences and purposes — developing their ideas, vocabulary, and voice. Through collaboration, discussion, and reflection, we nurture learners who are passionate about learning and proud of what they create.

We encourage children to take risks, edit their work, and reflect on their progress, showing how we are inspired to grow. Every child is supported to succeed, to be heard, and to feel valued as a reader and writer.

Above all, English at our school is about belonging — sharing stories, listening to others, and building a lifelong love of language together.
