Inclusive, Active and Affordable
At Kingsway Primary & Nursery School, our school uniform reflects who we are and what we value.
Following consultation with families, staff and pupils, our uniform has been carefully designed to be:
- inclusive and flexible
- comfortable and sensory‑aware
- gender neutral
- active and practical for learning and play
- cost‑effective, recognising current cost‑of‑living pressures
Our uniform supports children to feel comfortable, confident and ready to learn, while promoting equity, belonging and pride in our school community.
Our approach to school uniform
We believe school uniform should:
- remove unnecessary barriers to learning
- support children with sensory or additional needs
- allow children to move freely and play actively all day
- be practical for learning without constant changing
- be easy to purchase locally and affordably
Our uniform is deliberately simple and adaptable, ensuring that no child is disadvantaged by cost or access.
This approach is fully compliant with the Department for Education’s statutory guidance on school uniform, which emphasises affordability, inclusion and fairness.
Important change from 1 September 2026
From 1 September 2026, the Kingsway school jumper will change to:
- Grey sweatshirt or cardigan
- Featuring the burgundy Kingsway tree logo
Please note:
- Branded grey sweatshirts and cardigans will be available to order online
- Orders can be collected from the school office
- Plain grey sweatshirts or cardigans are absolutely fine
- There is no requirement to purchase branded uniform
Our priority is that children are comfortable and appropriately dressed, not where the uniform is bought from.
Where to buy uniform
All uniform items can be purchased from:
- local supermarkets, including
- Asda
- Sainsbury’s
- Tesco
- Marks & Spencer
- our named uniform supplier (for branded items only, if families choose)
We have intentionally ensured that everything children need can be bought locally and affordably.

An active uniform – no need to change for PE
Kingsway uses an active uniform approach.
This means:
- children do not need to change for PE
- learning time is protected
- children can move, play and take part in physical activity throughout the day
This approach also:
- supports children with sensory needs
- reduces anxiety around changing clothes
- promotes equality and inclusion
Inclusion, comfort and belonging
We recognise that:
- some children experience sensory sensitivities
- some families may need greater flexibility
- children learn best when they feel comfortable and confident
If a child needs a reasonable adjustment to uniform for wellbeing, sensory or medical reasons, please talk to us. We are always happy to work with families to find supportive solutions.
What we ask of families
We ask that families:
- support children to wear the Kingsway uniform each day
- clearly label clothing
- ensure children wear plain black trainers for safety and activity
Uniform helps to:
- build a shared sense of identity
- reduce pressure around clothing choices
- support equality and inclusion
Jewellery and personal items
For health and safety reasons, we ask that no jewellery is worn to school.
We recognise that some children may have pierced ears. In these cases:
- Small stud earrings only may be worn
- Earrings must be removed for PE and physical activity
- Children should be able to remove their own earrings independently
This approach helps to:
- keep children safe during active play and learning
- prevent injuries during PE and outdoor activity
- ensure comfort and inclusion for all children
We kindly ask families to support this expectation by:
- ensuring jewellery is removed before school where possible
- avoiding sending children to school in jewellery that cannot be removed
If there are exceptional medical or religious reasons, please speak to a member of staff so we can work together supportively.
A final message
Our uniform is designed to support:
- belonging
- equity
- activity
- learning
Thank you for working with us in partnership to ensure our uniform reflects the values of Kingsway Primary School and supports every child to thrive.
