Relationships, Belonging and a Team Around the Child

At Kingsway Primary School, we know that children thrive best when the adults around them work together in strong, respectful and trusting partnership.

Positive relationships sit at the heart of our school culture. They underpin children’s learning, wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and sense of belonging. Our approach is based on a Team Around the Child model, where school, parents, carers and pupils work together with a shared purpose: to ensure every child thrives at Kingsway.

The importance of relationships

We believe children learn best when they:

  • feel safe, valued and understood
  • experience consistent expectations between home and school
  • know that adults communicate and work together respectfully
  • feel a strong sense of belonging with their peers and the adults who care for them

Strong relationships allow children to:

  • build confidence and resilience
  • develop trust and emotional security
  • form healthy friendships
  • engage positively with learning

These relationships are fundamental to children’s success - academically, socially and emotionally.

A shared partnership with parents and carers

Parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education. Learning does not stop at the school gate, and children achieve best when school and home work as true partners.

At Kingsway, we value:

  • open and honest communication
  • shared responsibility
  • mutual respect
  • working together to support each child’s individual needs

We are always keen to listen, work collaboratively and find solutions together.

Our Working Together in Partnership Agreement

Each September, we share and sign our Working Together in Partnership Agreement with pupils and families.

This agreement:

  • clearly sets out the roles and responsibilities of staff, parents/carers and pupils
  • reflects and brings to life our school values:
    • We Care about Togetherness
    • We Thrive on Difference
    • We are Passionate about Learning
    • We are Inspired to Grow
  • is built on mutual respect, kindness and tolerance
  • supports consistency, clarity and shared understanding across our community

Reminder regarding respectful communication and behaviour

At Kingsway, we are committed to maintaining a calm, safe and respectful environment for everyone.

We ask that:

  • all conversations and interactions are polite and respectful
  • concerns are raised calmly and directly with school
  • we work together to find solutions in the best interests of children

We politely but firmly ask parents and carers to understand that:

Shouting, aggressive language or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated towards staff, pupils or other members of the school community.

This expectation protects children, staff and families and reflects the values we actively teach and model for our pupils every day.

Keeping the signed agreements secure

Signed Partnership Agreements are:

  • held securely in the school office
  • managed in line with the school’s data protection and privacy arrangements
  • used solely to support our shared work with families

This ensures information is handled safely and responsibly.

Attendance: an essential part of our partnership

Regular attendance and punctuality are fundamental to children thriving at school.

Being in school every day, on time, helps children to:

  • access the full curriculum
  • build and maintain friendships
  • develop positive routines and habits
  • strengthen relationships with trusted adults
  • feel a strong sense of belonging

We encourage families to:

  • prioritise attendance
  • avoid unnecessary absence
  • work with school early if there are any challenges

Please also see our Attendance page for more information and support.

Attendance is not just about learning — it is about relationships, wellbeing and belonging.

Working as a Team Around the Child

Our Team Around the Child approach means:

  • children are at the heart of decision‑making
  • staff, parents and (where appropriate) external professionals work together
  • support is coordinated, responsive and proportionate
  • strengths and needs are understood holistically

This collaborative approach ensures children feel supported, not singled out, and that help is provided early and effectively.

A shared commitment

Our Working Together in Partnership Agreement is more than a document — it is a shared commitment to:

  • kindness
  • respect
  • inclusion
  • high aspirations
  • positive relationships

When we work together with trust and respect, children feel secure, confident and inspired to grow.

We thank you for playing such an important role in your child’s Kingsway journey and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure every child thrives.
