Equality Objectives at Kingsway Primary School

Living Our Values Through Equity, Belonging and Relationships

At Kingsway Primary School, equality is not a policy in isolation – it is how we live our values, shape our relationships and make decisions every day.

We are committed to creating a school where:

  • every child feels they belong
  • difference is understood and valued
  • barriers to learning, wellbeing and participation are reduced early
  • high expectations are held alongside the right support

 

Our approach to equality is relational, inclusive and aspirational, ensuring all children are supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

 

Our statutory commitment

Kingsway Primary School meets its duties under the Equality Act 2010, which requires schools to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

 

Protected characteristics include disability, race, sex, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity.

We also uphold children’s rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), particularly:

  • the right to non‑discrimination
  • the right to safety and wellbeing
  • the right to be heard
  • the right to education that enables them to achieve their full potential

At Kingsway, equity means responding to difference with fairness, care and ambition.

Strong, trusting relationships underpin our school culture. Children are known as individuals, listened to and supported within a psychologically safe, no‑shame environment.

Diversity is a strength. Individual needs, identities and experiences are recognised and respected, and barriers are addressed proactively rather than reactively.

High expectations are held for all children. Adaptive teaching and enabling environments ensure every pupil can access ambitious learning.

Children are supported to develop confidence, independence and resilience over time, with success measured from individual starting points.

These values guide our equality objectives and shape every aspect of school life.

 

 

Equality Objectives (2025–2029)

Objective 1: Reduce barriers to learning and participation for all pupils

We will continue to strengthen our universal inclusive offer so that learning, routines and environments are accessible to every child, including pupils with SEND, pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL), disadvantaged pupils and those facing other barriers.

This will be achieved through:

  • Inclusive Quality First Teaching (iQFT)
  • adaptive teaching at the point of learning
  • enabling environments that remove barriers proactively
  • purposeful use of digital technology to support access and independence

 

This reflects children’s right to education and development (UNCRC Articles 28 and 29).

 

Objective 2: Ensure all children experience belonging, safety and respect

As a Trafford Virtual School accredited Belong School, we are committed to embedding belonging as a protective factor for wellbeing, learning and safeguarding.

We will:

  • maintain a strong relational culture where children feel safe, seen and heard
  • actively challenge bullying, discrimination and prejudice
  • teach respect, empathy and understanding across the curriculum
  • ensure safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

 

This objective aligns closely with UNCRC Articles 2, 3 and 12.

 

Objective 3: Narrow gaps in outcomes, wellbeing and attendance

We will continue to identify and respond to patterns in:

  • attainment and progress
  • behaviour and engagement
  • wellbeing and mental health
  • attendance

 

Particular focus will be given to disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND, pupils with EAL and those experiencing vulnerability. Support will be coordinated through:

  • keep‑up learning approaches within lessons
  • pastoral and wellbeing provision
  • the graduated approach to SEND
  • strong partnership with families and local services

 

This supports UNCRC Articles 23 and 28.

 

Objective 4: Strengthen inclusive partnerships with families and the community

We will continue to develop inclusive, accessible communication with families, particularly those facing barriers such as language, disability or disadvantage.

This includes:

  • relational, respectful communication
  • use of translation and digital accessibility tools
  • signposting to Trafford services and SENDIASS
  • working collaboratively with families to remove barriers early

 

This objective reflects UNCRC Articles 3 and 18.

 

Monitoring and review

These Equality Objectives will be:

  • reviewed regularly by school leaders
  • monitored through data, pupil voice and parental feedback
  • supported through ongoing staff professional development
  • reported to governors as part of strategic oversight

 

Objectives are reviewed at least every four years or sooner if the school context changes.

Promoting equality at Kingsway Primary School is a shared responsibility.
