Parent FAQs, Support and Who to Contact

At Kingsway Primary School, inclusion is not a separate policy or provision — it is how we work every day. We believe that strong relationships, early support and clear communication help children and families thrive.

This page explains how inclusion works at Kingsway and, most importantly, who parents can speak to for help and advice.

What does inclusion mean at Kingsway?

Inclusion at Kingsway means that:

  • every child belongs to our school community
  • difference is recognised, respected and supported
  • barriers to learning, wellbeing and participation are reduced early
  • high expectations are held for all children, alongside the right support

We believe that fairness is about equity, not sameness.

How are children supported in class?

Most children’s needs are met through Inclusive Quality First Teaching (iQFT).

This means:

  • teaching is adaptive and responsive
  • learning is supported at the point of teaching
  • enabling environments reduce barriers proactively
  • children are supported within their class community

This approach reduces reliance on catch‑up after lessons and keeps children learning, connected and confident.

What if my child is struggling with learning?

If a child is finding learning difficult:

  • teaching is adapted and support adjusted in class
  • scaffolds, visuals and keep‑up strategies are used
  • concerns are monitored carefully

If difficulties continue, we follow a graduated approach, increasing support gradually and involving parents at every stage.

Your child’s class teacher is always the best first person to speak to.

Does my child need a diagnosis to receive support?

No.

Support at Kingsway is based on need, not labels. Many children receive adjustments and support without needing a diagnosis or formal plan.

A diagnosis can sometimes help guide support, but it is not required for us to help your child.

How are children supported with wellbeing or emotional needs?

Wellbeing and learning are closely linked.

Children are supported through:

  • strong, trusted adult relationships
  • calm, predictable routines
  • pastoral and wellbeing support
  • relational behaviour approaches

Children are encouraged to talk and ask for help.

How are children with SEND supported?

Children with SEND are supported through:

  • adaptive teaching and enabling environments
  • personalised strategies and reasonable adjustments
  • targeted support where appropriate
  • partnership with external professionals

Some children with more complex needs may attend our Small Specialist Classes (The Nest and The Burrow) while remaining part of the wider school community.

How are children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) supported?

Children with EAL are supported through:

  • inclusive classroom strategies
  • visual supports, modelling and repetition
  • use of digital technology and translation tools
  • peer support where appropriate
  • pastoral and relational support

Children’s English development is assessed carefully and home languages are valued.

How are disadvantaged pupils supported?

Disadvantaged pupils are supported through:

  • iQFT and adaptive teaching
  • pastoral and wellbeing support
  • attendance support and early help
  • inclusive enrichment and OPAL play opportunities

Support focuses on removing barriers and strengthening belonging.

What if I’m worried about attendance?

Attendance is supported through:

  • early conversation and understanding
  • relational, non‑judgemental approaches
  • pastoral and safeguarding‑aware support
  • partnership with families and services where needed

We work with families to address barriers.
