SEND information for parents
At Kingsway Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to thrive, academically, socially and emotionally.
We believe that:
- children learn best when they feel safe and included
- difference is a normal and valued part of school life
- high expectations and the right support go hand in hand
- parents and carers are essential partners in supporting children’s development
Our SEND provision is rooted in strong relationships, inclusive practice and adaptive teaching, ensuring that children with SEND are supported as part of our whole‑school community.
Our inclusive approach at Kingsway
Kingsway is an inclusive mainstream school with additional specialist provision. Most children’s needs are met through our strong universal offer, known as iQFT – Inclusive Quality First Teaching.
This means that:
- classrooms are designed to be accessible to all learners
- teaching is adaptive and responsive
- barriers to learning are reduced before additional support is needed
- children are supported to remain part of their class community
SEND support is not something separate from day‑to‑day school life – it is built into how we teach, care and support children every day.
Identifying SEND needs early
We recognise the importance of early identification and early support.
Children’s needs may be identified:
- through ongoing classroom observation
- assessment and progress monitoring
- professional dialogue with staff
- conversations with parents and carers
- information from previous settings or external professionals
Where concerns are identified, we follow a graduated approach, ensuring support is:
- timely
- proportionate
- reviewed regularly
- responsive to children’s changing needs
Parents are kept informed and involved throughout this process.
Support for children with SEND
Depending on a child’s needs, support may include:
- adaptive teaching within the classroom
- use of visual, sensory or organisational supports
- targeted keep‑up support alongside learning
- pastoral and wellbeing support
- advice and strategies informed by specialist services
- personalised learning or support plans where appropriate
Our aim is always to build independence, confidence and success, rather than reliance on adult support.
Small Specialist Classes (SSC)
Kingsway Primary School also hosts small specialist classes, which:
- support children with more complex SEND needs
- provide highly personalised teaching and care
- follow the same relational, inclusive principles as the rest of the school
- enable children to thrive within a supportive, specialist environment
Children in SSC provision are valued members of our school community and benefit from close links with the wider school wherever appropriate.
Working in partnership with parents and carers
We believe parents and carers know their children best and play a vital role in supporting SEND.
At Kingsway:
- communication is open, respectful and honest
- parents are involved in reviewing support and progress
- meetings are solution‑focused and child‑centred
- support is explained clearly, without unnecessary jargon
If you have concerns about your child’s learning, wellbeing or development, we encourage you to speak with your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
External support and Trafford Local Authority
Where needed, Kingsway works closely with Trafford Local Authority services and other professionals to support children with SEND.
This may include liaison with:
- educational psychologists
- speech and language therapists
- occupational therapists
- Trafford SEND services
- Trafford Team Together (early help)
We follow Trafford’s Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision guidance, ensuring that high‑quality mainstream provision is always the starting point.
